Thats great and exactly what I am talking about!! Clearly the people who wrote that software or the article that I cited loved the band/jerry and came up with a clever way of incorporating it into their work.

A lot of people in GIS are Heads, including GIS software engineers. This software is used world wide so at least when this release was out (about 7 years ago) it made the rounds.

It makes sense that when someone is as passionate about something (Grateful Dead in this case), they often incorporate this into their work.

Cool stuff. I hope others have other examples to contribute to this thread.

I'll have to ask my brother about any stories he may have. He's an international rep for AutoDesk and has told me of the number of "hippies" he runs into, especially at conventions.

Yep. I'm sure he has some stories too. The big summer ESRI convention in San Diego brings all the "granola mappers" from around the world out in full force. All us mapping nerds run in the same circles.

I grew up with a kid, the first Head I ever knew, who ended up in mapping. He was the guy who drove the beat- up VW van with "OUCH!" painted on the front (some of you East coast heads may remember seeing him, he was all over the place in the 80's). I may have picked the wrong career.
